As our community becomes more entrenched in the west, the challenge of providing clear and trusted Islamic opinions is key for the community’s growth and adherence to faith. We, as Imams, have to be able and capable of providing guidance and clarity to those who approach us. The right answers and solutions will gain the confidence and trust of our community in scholarship and scholars. This introductory discussion session is geared towards enhancing our understanding of the key concepts in Maqasid al-Shari’ah (the Higher Goals of Islamic Law).
Understanding these concepts, and how the development of Maqasid shaped Islamic Law are key to examining and deconstructing legal opinions and mechanisms that are currently in use today. This discussion led by Shaykh Talal Ahdab, will focus on providing a framework that can be further developed with future discussions and workshops to increase our understanding of how legal opinions are formulated and the steps needed to arrive at sound results.
