Statement of Condolences on the Passing of Pope Francis
April 22, 2025 – On behalf of Canadian Imams and the Muslim community across Canada, we extend our condolences to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and all Catholics in Canada on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis stood firmly with the poor, the displaced, and the oppressed. His historic apology to Indigenous peoples in Canada set a powerful example of responsibility and healing that transcends religious boundaries.
Pope Francis consistently championed justice and peace across the globe, speaking out for the vulnerable in regions facing immense hardship, including Gaza. His commitment to human dignity and his outreach to Muslim communities reflected a deep desire for mutual respect and interfaith understanding. Many of the values he embodied—mercy, justice, and humility—are shared across our faiths.
We pray that God Almighty grants comfort to those mourning his loss. May his successor continue on the path of leading with courage, humility, and a commitment to global healing.
